Important information about your prescription:
This medication should only be taken by the patient whose name appears on the prescription label.
Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor used to treat erectile dysfunction in men.
- Tadalafil’s most common side effects include headache, upset stomach, nausea, dizziness, back pain, nasal congestion, and warmth or redness in your face, neck, arms or upper chest.
- Contact your medical provider if these side effects bother you or do not go away.
- Seek emergency medical care if you have a painful erection or an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours. This may happen even when you are not having sex. If this is not treated right away, it may lead to lasting sex problems and you may not regain normal organ function.
Precautions and contraindications
- Do not take this medication if you have an allergy to tadalafil or any of its components.
- Stop taking this medication and seek emergency medical care if you have signs of an allergic reaction like rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- Do not take this medication if you are taking medications that contain nitrates such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate, creatine nitrate, or arginine nitrate.
- Do not take this medication if you use recreational drugs known as “poppers” or “rush.” These medications may contain amyl nitrite or butyl nitrite, which can cause a dangerous or life-threatening drop in blood pressure when taken with tadalafil.
- Take extra precautions when consuming pre-workout supplements that may contain beet root extract and/or other organic nitrates.
- Do not take with other erectile dysfunction medications and supplements without checking with your healthcare provider and pharmacist.
- If starting any new medications, including antibiotics, please contact your provider or pharmacy to check for potential drug interactions.
- Talk with your provider if you eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice.
- Talk to your provider about alcohol consumption while taking this medication.
- To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or fainting, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. Be careful going up and down stairs.
- If you have a history of heart, kidney, liver, ear or eye disease, be sure to tell your medical provider before taking tadalafil.
- Some patients have reported sudden hearing loss after taking tadalafil. Contact your doctor right away if you experience hearing loss, ringing in the ears, or any other changes in your hearing.
- Changes in vision such as blurred vision, sensitivity to light, or eye pain have been reported after tadalafil use. Seek emergency medical care if you have loss of vision in one or both eyes.
- Talk to your medical provider if you have any of these health conditions: heart attack within the last 90 days, chest pain during sex, heart failure, a heartbeat that is not normal, high or low blood pressure, or a stroke within the last 6 months.
- This medication should not be taken by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- This drug does not protect against infections that are spread through having sex like HIV or hepatitis. To protect against these infections, use a latex or polyurethane condom.
Directions for use
- Daily dosing: Take 1 tablet by mouth once daily with or without food, at the same time of the day
- As needed dosing: Take 1 to 2 tablets by mouth 2 hours prior to sexual activity with or without food
- Do not take more doses than instructed in 24 hours
- Do not cut or break your tablets
- Always check your prescription label for the correct dose prescribed by your medical provider
Missed dose
- If you miss a dose of the medication, take it as soon as you remember.
- If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose.
- Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.
Storage
- Store your medication at room temperature between 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C) in the packaging provided by the pharmacy until you need it. Keep out of reach of children.
Disposal of medications
- Do not flush unused medication down the toilet or pour in the sink or drain. Dispose according to local regulations.
