FDA Warning: Do not use tirzepatide if you have a health condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), or if you or a family member have had medullary thyroid cancer. This drug has been shown to cause thyroid C-cell tumors in some animals, although it is not known if this happens in humans. Contact your prescriber or seek immediate medical care if you have a neck mass, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or if you develop hoarseness that will not resolve.

This should only be taken by the patient whose name appears on the prescription label.


Do not use tirzepatide if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding.

  • Active Ingredients
    • Tirzepatide is a a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes and to aid in weight loss in certain adults.
      • Tizepatide’s most common side effects are constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, headache, heartburn, upset stomach and/or stomach pain. Some patients have also reported feeling tired or weak, hair loss, and an increase in burping while using tirzepatide. Swelling or redness at the injection site may also occur.
      • Some patients may also experience pancreas or gallbladder problems while using tirzepatide. Stop using tirzepatide and seek emergent medical care if you have severe abdominal pain, with or without vomiting, that will not subside.
  • Directions for Use
    • Inject subcutaneously once weekly. You may inject into the abdomen, front of your thigh, or the back of your arm. Rotate the site each week. Below is a diagram showing common injection sites.
  • For detailed instructions on how to inject Mounjaro® and Zepbound® pens, please refer to the instructions for use enclosed in the box with your medication.
  • Inspect your pen prior to injecting your weekly dose. The solution should be clear and colorless to slightly yellow. Do not use if particulate matter or discoloration is seen.
  • After injecting, dispose of your used pen in a sharps disposal container. If you do not have one, you can use a plastic bin such as an empty milk jug or laundry detergent container.
  • Pens and needles are for a single use only and should never be reused or shared with others.
  • Storage
    • Store your Mounjaro® or  Zepbound® pens in the refrigerator between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) in the packaging provided by the pharmacy until you need it. If necessary, the medication may be stored out of the refrigerator, up to 86°F (30°C) for up to 21 days.
    • Protect from freezing and light.
    • Keep out of reach of children.
    • Under certain circumstances a prescription drug’s effectiveness may be affected by exposure to extremes of heat, cold, humidity, or light exposure.
  • Precautions and contraindications
    • Do not use this medication if you are allergic to any of the components.
    • Do not use tirzepatide if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding.
    • Tirzepatide may decrease the effectiveness of oral birth control pills. Use an alternate form of birth control for 4 weeks after starting tirzepatide and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.
  • Missed Dose
    • If you miss a dose of the medication, take it as soon as you remember within 4 days. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose entirely and resume your medication at the next scheduled weekly dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose. Check your prescription label for the correct dose prescribed by your medical provider.
