Medication Disposal Information:

We do not accept returned prescription medications or needles.

Proper disposal of your medication is important. There is a risk that the drug or medication can be stolen, diverted, abused, misused, or accidentally ingested, which can pose a risk to the health and safety of the patient and other members of the patient’s household; children are particularly at risk of accidentally ingesting unused, unwanted, and expired medications that have not been properly, safely, and promptly disposed of; when drugs or medications are disposed of in the household trash or flushed down the drain, the drugs and medications can leak into the ecosystem, which can have a potentially adverse or harmful effect on the environment; and when drugs or medications are disposed of in the household trash without the drug or medication having been rendered deactivated, inaccessible, or otherwise, unpalatable, unusable, the drug or medication may be stolen by individuals seeking to divert, abuse, or misuse the drug or medication.

Some local law enforcement or pharmacies may have drug disposal kiosks or drug disposal programs you may use. To find your local drug disposal kiosks you may search on the Drug Enforcement Agency’s website.

Unless stated in your printed information, please follow these steps to properly dispose of your medication: Do not flush unused medications or pour down a sink or drain. Remove the drugs from their original containers and mix them with something undesirable, such as used coffee grounds, dirt, or cat litter. This makes the medicine less appealing to children and pets and unrecognizable to someone who might intentionally go through the trash looking for drugs. Put the mixture in something you can close (a resealable zipper storage bag, empty can, or other container) to prevent the drug from leaking or spilling out. Throw the container in the garbage. Scratch out all your personal information on the empty medicine packaging to protect your identity and privacy. Throw the packaging away. Don’t give your medicines to family or friends. A medicine that works for you could harm someone else.
