Boxed Warning for Fluoxetine and Escitalopram: Drugs like this one have raised the chance of suicidal thoughts or actions in children and young adults. The risk may be greater in people who have had these thoughts or actions in the past. All people who take this drug need to be watched closely. Contact your provider team right away if signs like depression, nervousness, restlessness, irritability, panic attacks, or changes in mood or actions are new or worse, or if any increased thoughts or actions of suicide occur. Compounded prescription drugs are not approved by the FDA. The FDA does not verify the safety or effectiveness of compounded drugs. 

Important Information: 

This should only be taken by the patient whose name appears on the prescription label.

  • Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and Common Side Effects

Your tablet may contain one or more of the following active ingredients: escitalopram oxalate, fluoxetine hydrochloride, Vitamin B6, or L-theanine.

  • Escitalopram Oxalate is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor used to treat depression or anxiety.
    • Escitalopram’s most common side effects are diarrhea, nausea, decreased libido, delayed orgasm, drowsiness, headache, or trouble sleeping.
  • Fluoxetine Hydrochloride is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor used to treat depression and anxiety.
    • Fluoxetine’s most common side effects are decreased libido, delayed orgasm, decreased appetite, diarrhea, nausea, dry mouth, drowsiness, weakness, trouble sleeping, and anxiety.
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride) is a vitamin used to supplement the diet.
    • Vitamin B6 is generally well tolerated, but when taken in excess, side effects may include extreme sensitivity to sunlight, nausea, heartburn, and painful skin patches.
  • L-Theanine is an amino acid used to supplement the diet.
    • L-Theanine is generally well tolerated, but rarely you may experience headaches or feeling drowsy.
  • Directions for Use
    • Take one tablet by mouth once daily in the morning.
  • Storage
    • Store your medication at room temperature (between 68 and 77 degrees F) in the packaging provided by the pharmacy until you need it. Keep out of reach of children.
    • Under certain circumstances a prescription drug’s effectiveness may be affected by exposure to extremes of heat, cold, or humidity.
  • Precautions and contraindications
    • Do not take this medication if you are allergic to any of the components. Do not take it if you are pregnant.
    • Fluoxetine and Escitalopram: Do not take with monoamine oxidase inhibitors. This is a class of antidepressant medication that is rarely used today. Do not use if you have a heart arrhythmia called QT prolongation. Do not take with an antibiotic called Linezolid.
  • Missed Dose
    • If you miss a dose of the medication, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose. Check your prescription label for the correct dose prescribed by your medical provider.
  • Additional Information
    • Our pharmacy may use imprinted codes stamped into your tablet for pill identification purposes. These codes do not align with generic drug imprinting defined by the FDA.
